Classes are offered to children age 2 – 4 years of age.
Implementing an active learning environment, children are encouraged to explore the classroom materials “hands on” at their cognitive level. The classroom is rich with exciting materials that help strengthen fine and gross motor skills. Daily opportunities are provided to work their small muscles in preparation for writing including lacing, beading, manipulating dough, cutting, construction toys, exploring a variety of sensory rich materials and plentiful art materials. Activities are a balance of structured and open ended or process driven, allowing children more freedom and creativity in their play. Children are given guidance and boundaries alongside opportunities to make suitable choices and have reasonable ownership of their learning.
Our pre-K program provides a wide variety of open-ended activities centered on getting 4 year olds ready to excel in Kindergarten. We focus on developing the “whole child”, including social emotional development, cooperating in a group, following daily routines and direction, practicing appropriate behavior for a classroom, fostering independence and autonomy, making suitable choices, problem solving and peer conflict resolution, and academic achievement. Educational activities are offered in areas of science, music and movement, art, language, early reading, and simple math. Children work at activities to learn the alphabet and letter sounds as they are incorporated throughout their playtime and group time.
The structure of the 4s class gently increases throughout the school year while maintaining enough flexibility to follow the children and meet their needs. Encouragement to write increases at each individual child’s pace with daily individual work stations with the teacher.
The 4-year-old class meets each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am – 12:00pm and is taught by April Taylor.
Our 3 and 4 year combination class provides 4 year olds the opportunity to attend a 5 day program to ease the transition from pre-k to full day Kindergarten. This class often allows space for a limited number of 3 year olds as well, so they too can partake in a 5 day program in combination with the 3 year old class schedule. The pace and structure of this class is at a slightly higher level than the 3s, incorporating elements from both programs to suit the age range.
The 3/4-year-old mix class meets each week on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am – 11:30am and is taught by April Taylor.
Our 3 year old class is a safe nurturing environment that fosters cognitive and social development through play and structured activities. Students are encouraged to use their whole bodies for exploration which strengthens awareness of self, respect for others, and self esteem. Dramatic play, art creation, block building, working with manipulatives, clay, play dough, and sand are incorporated into our daily routine and enhance gross and fine motor skills. Our literature-based program reinforces listening skills and language development and invites our students to use their imaginations while developing a love of stories and reading.
The 3-year-old class meets each week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am – 11:30am and is taught by Shannon Powell.
Our 2 year old program fosters individuality and growth in a safe and nurturing environment. We guide our toddlers in finding appropriate ways toward social interaction and offer them choices whenever possible to create a sense of control and independence. Our daily routine includes group play and art which introduces and supports gross and fine motor skills. We implement a literature based program where language skills are developed through the use of stories, songs, rhymes and dramatic play.
The 2-year-old class meets each week on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 – 11:30am and is taught by Shannon Powell.
